Awaken the child within and play, laugh, explore, learn and build a repertoire of instructional activities designed to explore emotions, physical awareness, health and fitness, environmental stewardship, social behavior and so much more. Teachers, activities directors, child care workers, yoga teachers or anyone else working with children whose role is to support the growth and development of responsible, compassionate individuals, will find this course comprehensive and inspirational. This youth yoga training program includes 37 contact hours of comprehensive children's yoga education with anatomy, theory, practicums and additional material> The core teachers are ERYT-500 &RCYT as well as IAYT or LMT. This course is all you need to feel confident and competent to teach yoga to the younger generation.  Students who are already RYT-200 will need to do additional work after the session to meet the full 95 hour requirements for yoga alliance certification. the formal  certification involves an assigned ethics and theme class project, and a practicum working with children.    
 
Contact hours includes: 
  • Child development and age appropriate yoga postures and activities.  
  • Anatomy for younger bodies. Health issues pertinent today and considerations for ADHD and Autism.  
  • Games to reinforce self-esteem, camaraderie, self-awareness, compassion, environmental ethics, and creative thinking skills.  
  • Methods & themes to teach ethics, responsibility, and sensitivity for others through story time and positive discussion.  
  • How to incorporate sound, scent, textiles and art projects into the yoga class to enhance creativity and self-actualization.   
  • Class pacing, formatting and opportunities to promote educational growth.  
  • Behavior modification, instilling self-control and tips for keeping students respectfully engaged. 
  • Youth anatomy, physiology, and a review of medications and common physical or behavior challenges that make it difficult for many children to focus or interact successfully with others, with a focus on how yoga can forage greater holistic health and wellness.   
  • How to involve parents and promote family bonding through yoga. 
  • Syllabus offering hundreds of exercises and class plans to support your teaching.
  • Browse a huge assortment of children's yoga resources, books and materials available today. 
  • A practicum where we work with children, starting with observation, and proceeding to each teacher working with a class under supervision, so we can give feedback and gain confidence and competence in applying the material learned in a real-life situation.  


Heartwood Yoga and Heartwood Retreat Center are both Registered Yoga Alliance Children's Yoga Schools. Yoga for the Balanced Child: Children’s Yoga Teacher Training Program partner's up with ReFlex Arts Dance and Yoga to assure our teachers have hands on experience working with kids who love to move. The course is taught at Heartwood with practicums at the  youth movement center equipped with children’s props, mats, teaching aids and materials. This program is appropriate for anyone who wants to work with children - teachers, caregivers and parents, but yoga teachers desiring to complete the requirements to become RCYT (Yoga Alliance certified) will need to be an an RYT-200 or above.

Mentorship, supervision, and on-going support provide a nurturing atmosphere and ample opportunity to help new teachers gain the confidence and experience to become dynamic youth yoga teachers. 


RCYT Yoga for the Balanced Child teacher training.

Summer session 2019 : June 22-25, Sunday through Tuesday 9am - 9pm. This completes the educational contact hours.  Students are also invited for a nominal fee  to stay June 26-28 (three days working from 9-2pm with children in the Heartwood Children's camp) to complete all their practicum hours, making it possible to register with Yoga alliance immediately after the program is complete. Lunch and breakfast is served each day of the practicum. Students are released at 2pm to visit areas around Sarasota, and will be responsible for their own dinners.

​Course fee - $850.00 - add $50.00 if you wish to include the extended 3 day residency and practicum.
